What should A Wedding DJ agreement include?
As a new DJ, it can get confusing to start with the wedding DJ contract. It may become a bit challenging for you to navigate through the contract and decide what to include and what not to include. However, a DJ contract isn’t all that complicated. There are certain professional expectations about how a contract should look and several key clauses that every wedding DJ contract should include.
While drafting the contract, make sure it talks about the following terms:
Event description – This is one of the most important sections of a DJ contract. This is where event details are specified and agreed upon in writing. Details such as event date, time, place, power outlet, sound system, amps required are specified here. It also mentions how long you’re contracted to perform at the wedding.
Scope of service – As a DJ, you should use this section to spell out the services you’ll offer at the event. Also, specify the services you won’t offer.
Payment – It is the most critical part of a DJ contract. As a DJ, it’s your responsibility to mention the due date for the payment, late fee, and deposits. Many DJs require a security deposit upon contract signing and a final balance due to be paid on or before the event day. Be sure to include the extra charges for any additional hours that you play beyond the event end time. Also, don’t forget to mention if there is a non-refundable deposit.
Cancellation/Termination policy – Sometimes odd situations may arise that might compel either you or the client to cancel the contract. This is why the DJ contract must include a cancellation policy to specify what will happen if the contract is canceled. For example, if the client cancels this contract within X days of the event, he will forfeit Y% of the total fee. In case if the DJ is unable to perform, it is DJ’s responsibility to provide a suitable replacement DJ.
